Flooding hits northern South Island
Flooding has been struck on top in the South Island after a heavy rain overnight and early this morning. Several people have been rescued from overwhelmed vehicles with water so deep and one had to be rescued on a surf lifesaving boat. A lot of water on State Highway One north of Blenheim and police are asking people to take care of them self. In the early hours of Thursday morning a small house bus became stuck in the river water which flooded near Barlett Rd in Hope, Tasman. One man was in the bus and spent more than a hour trapped before the Coastguard crew saved him. Police says that he was frightened but he was fine.
