Rare forest ringlet butterflies found on Little Barrier Island
A population of a rare native butterfly was found on Little Barrier Island in the Hauaki Gulf. Rats and wasps were reduced the forest ringlets to only small amount around the country. The moth and butterflies Trust has spoken to the woman and said that there were five butterflies were spotted on the same day, and its is a clue to what predators are destroying the rare insect's. Now that they discovered it's in good numbers on Great Barrier, there're thinking it would be the rats or the wasps, because the island is rat- free. Ms Knight says that the forest ringlet are not closely related to any other kind of butterfly, and no one predict to find the species on Little Barrier Island.
